QUEBEC TRIP MONTREAL PATISSERIE

Kouign Aman

This was hands down the most memorable meal of the trip.  Even though this is a bakery café and it was “only breakfast”  it was so fabulous it deserves that distinction.  Located in the Plateau area we walked into this warm and inviting bakery with just a few tables. We ordered cappuccinos, almond croissants and a butternut squash soup that was absolutely dreamy.  The friendliness of the staff and the congenial nature of the patrons made for a lovely morning.   Tip:  If the say you have to wait 10 minutes for the almond croissants do it!  They come out warm and fresh and worth the wait.  For more on Quebec  -see www.ftlauderdalenews.com

Parc National du Canada de la Mauricie
One of the nicest surprises of our trip to Quebec was Mauricie National Park and the vistas of fall colors which turned early this year (2013). Approximately 15 minutes from Shawinigan, we drove in and around the loop, stopping at several hiking areas. An easy yet lovely hike is the Cascades, taking you very close to running streams and waterfalls. Plan for a full day if you take it slow with time to appreciate the natural wonders.
